Sheriff Kevin Davis wants to remind motorists traveling in Chilton County today that En Fuego will bring more traffic than usual to the area.

Davis asks people who are not attending the event to avoid riding through County Road 23 in the Verbena area, if at all possible.

“It’s a huge traffic issue,” he said. “We are trying to help ease the flow of traffic.”

Motorists would do well to follow any directions given to them by law enforcement, Davis added. That includes people attending En Fuego, who should park only in designated areas rather than on the roadside.

“If your vehicle is in a designated area, we will better be able to watch it and try to keep it secure,” he said.

The Sheriff’s Department began providing traffic control last year for the Christian music festival, which brings more than 20,000 people to the area. He asks all drivers to pay extra attention because of the increase in traffic while the event is going on.

En Fuego begins at noon and ends at approximately 9 p.m., meaning traffic in both directions on County Road 23 and U.S. Highway 31 will likely be thicker than usual.

“We’re going to stop traffic and direct traffic to keep it flowing any way we can,” the sheriff said.

Residents in the area, as well as people at En Fuego, can rest easy knowing that the county’s first responders have a plan in place to adequately get emergency vehicles in and out of the area if needed, Davis added.
