Isabella wasted no time in putting away Class 1A, Region 3 foe A.L. Johnson. The Mustangs led the Eagles 39-0 at the half en route to a 53-0 shutout victory.

The win puts Isabella at 3-0 overall and 2-0 in region play on the season.

“We had a great week of practice this week,” said Isabella head coach Tate Leonard. “Anytime you have that, you expect good things. We wanted to work on some little things here and there, and everybody got to play. We have a very young team and some inexperienced guys that are slowly starting to get there.”

The Mustangs’ received the opening kickoff but fumbled the ball two plays later to end their opening drive.

A.L. Johnson would fail to capitalize, however, as the Isabella defense would keep the Eagles away from the red zone throughout the contest. The Eagles only tallied 28 yards of total offense compared to 393 rushing yards and 142 passing yards amassed by the Mustangs.

Lance Price got Isabella on the board with a short touchdown run with 7:52 remaining in the opening quarter.

Three minutes later Jonathan Alstott made a 75-yard pick six to put the Mustangs ahead 13-0.

Price would score two more touchdowns, one deep in the red zone and another from 20 yards out in the second quarter.

A 16-yard run for a score by Cole Atchison and a 46-yard touchdown on a screen pass to Scottie Johnson gave IHS their 39-0 halftime lead.

Johnson put up the lone points of the third quarter with a 10-yard touchdown run with 6:18 remaining in the period.

Isaeballa’s final score of the night came on a short run by Jake Logan to set the final at 53-0.

Isabella will next travel to play Linden on Sept. 20 in a battle of undefeated teams.

“We have a big challenge coming up,” Leonard said. “We have to have a great mental and physical week and get ready for a war.”
