Chilton County Commissioners met the new president of the Chilton County Humane Society Board on Monday night.
Donna McCary introduced herself as the new president who will take the place of former president Kathy Plier.
McCary explained that at a recent humane society board meeting, new board members were elected.
Currently, the board consists of Katherine Reece who is the secretary, Tom Cuthbert who is the treasurer, first chair vice president is Lisa Sewell and second chair vice president is Beth McBride.
Jessica Terry, who served as the director for the Chilton County Humane Society told commissioners on Monday she was resigning from her position, effective Tuesday.
“In light of Jessica leaving, I would like on behalf of the commission to thank her for the job she has done,” commissioner Bobby Agee said. “She has done a wonderful job.”
Terry was named the new director for the humane society after Scott Missildine resigned in June 2013.
Terry previously worked for three years at the humane society under former director Joe Murphy from 2008-2011.
“Since I have been on the commission, I have worked with several directors at the humane society, and you have done a wonderful job,” Commission Chairman Allen Caton told Terry.
Board members hope to have a new director appointed later this week.
Commissioners unanimously voted to change the hours the Chilton County Courthouse stays open from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Caton told commissioners that many of the judges start court promptly at 8 a.m., which posed a problem for individuals waiting to get inside for court.
Caton said he met last week with members of a courthouse security committee including Chilton County Probate Judge Bobby Martin, Chilton County Circuit Court Clerk Glenn McGriff, Chilton County District Judge Rhonda Hardesty and Chilton County Sheriff Kevin Davis to discuss security plans.
