Let it fly: Verbena quarterback Phillip Hensley tries to release the football Friday before the Notasulga rush can get to him.

The Verbena Red Devils (1-2) could not seem to make magic happen in a region game Sept. 9 against the Notasulga Blue Devils (3-0), who won 34-9.

At the end of the first half, the score was 8-9 with Verbena ahead, but the Blue Devils picked up the pace.

With 2 minutes left in the third, Notasulga had regained its footing and led 22-9.

The Blue Devils capitalized on a few Red Devil fumbles and made several interceptions, but the Red Devils made some key plays.

Freshman Duante Talley had 21 carries for 115 yards, 28 yards receiving for a total of 143 yards. Talley suffered an injury in the fourth quarter.

Senior Marquez Deramus had five carries for 12 yards.

Sophomore Jaryus Wilson had six carries for 24 yards and passed with seven attempts and three completions.

Verbena recorded a safety in the first quarter and recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown.

Verbena will face Loachapoka in a region game on Friday, Sept. 16 in Verbena.
