Verbena’s first ever cross country team continues to improve, as evidenced by its showing at the Kudzu Hills Invitational at Cold Springs High School on Sept. 25.

Koy Lucas, in the junior high division, had Verbena’s best showing, finishing 21st out of 138 runners with a time of 13:16.

Raymond Bulger finished 88th in the same division with a time of 15:58.

Kelly Dorsett finished 83rd out of 147 runners in the boys varsity division. His time was 22:47.

Fred Wright finished 90th with a time of 23:10.

Allyson Brown and Celeste Leverette turned in the 79th and 80th best times, respectively, in the girls varsity division. Their times were 30:11 and 30:32.

Leverette shaved more than 8 minutes off her time from the previous week’s meet, and almost all the Red Devils made some improvement.

“I’m hoping we’re going to see more time come off these results,” coach Jonathan Shedd said.

Verbena’s last meet of the regular season will be Oct. 9 at Decatur, a relatively flat course, Shedd said.
