Reunion planned for those who played under former coach Hand

Published 9:52am Friday, August 31, 2012

A reunion is planned for Friday, Sept. 14 for all former football players and cheerleaders who were at Chilton County High School while Don Hand was coach, graduating classes 1971-1988 (Hand was coach for the 1970-1987 seasons).

The cost is $25 per person and will include barbecue before the game and snacks after game.

Mickey Bates is heading up the reunion and encouraged everyone to spread the word.

“I have sent out letters and emails, but there are still a few who we have not been able to contact,” he said.

The group will gather in the lunchroom at CCHS around 4 p.m. to mix and mingle. The buffet meal will be at 5 p.m. There will be memorabilia to look through, and everyone is encouraged to bring their own photos and scrapbooks to share.

Plans are to have a special section where everyone will sit at the game together, and following the game, everyone will gather in the new CCHS weight room for refreshments and reminiscing.

Saturday is the deadline to sign up.

“We need to get a count of the people who plan to attend,” Bates said. “If they will just call me, I’ll add them to the list and they can send in their money.”

Contact Bates at 755-2100, 755-0645 or mickeybates@bellsouth.net.
