Chilton County area high school softball teams completed their penultimate week of their respective regular seasons with area tournaments looming. Here is the recap of action in Chilton County from April 12-18.

Thorsby High School

Thorsby High School finished Class 2A Area 6 play this week with all three games coming inside area play, and the Rebels swept those games and finished area play with a perfect 6-0 record to clinch home-field advantage for the area tournament.

The Rebels took down Fayetteville High School 10-0 on April 12 behind Makinley Turner’s five innings of one-hit softball and 14 strikeouts. Allie Reeser was 3-for-3 with two RBIs, and Emry Davis contributed two RBIs.

Thorsby beat B.B. Comer High School 6-0 on April 16 with five doubles in the game. Brooklyn Reeser, Davis and Turner each contributed two hits, and Brinley Giambrone had two RBIs. Turner was overpowering in the circle again going the complete seven innings with three hits and 17 strikeouts.

Turner kept rounding into great form on April 18 against Isabella High School, this time at the plate recording two hits, both doubles, and two RBIs in the Rebels 10-4 win. Allie Reeser was 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs, and Brooklyn Reeser had two hits as well.

 

Maplesville High School

Maplesville High School clinched home-field advantage for the AHSAA Class 1A Area 6 tournament with a 11-5 win over Billingsley on April 15. Mollie Kayte Smith took over at the plate going 4-for-4 with three doubles and six RBIs. Allie Hand, Kamylia Talley, Grace Williams and Makenzie Williams each had two hits in the win.

The Red Devils powered past Jemison on April 18, 15-0. Jaden McGee had a game to remember going 3-for-4 with two home runs and eight RBIs. Talley was 3-for-4, and Kennedy Reed posted four innings in the circle with four hits and one strikeout.

 

Isabella High School

Isabella High School established itself as a threat in AHSAA Class 2A Area 6 play, taking down Fayetteville High School 11-2 on April 15 to finish runners-up.  Blair Underwood threw five innings with one hit, two unearned runs and three strikeouts to keep Fayetteville at ease. Underwood joined Anna Johnson and Kylee Till with 2-for-3 performances at the plate. Eliza Lovett launched a three-run home run, and Aliyah Patterson contributed two RBIs.

The Mustangs followed the next day with an 8-3 win over Billingsley High School with Johnson going 4-for-4 with three doubles and two RBIs, and Patterson with a 3-for-4 effort. Underwood shined in the circle with a complete seven innings with four hits, three runs and 10 strikeouts.

Patterson was 3-for-4 with three RBIs, and Amelia Fjeldstad and Underwood each had two hits in Isabella’s April 18 loss to Thorsby.

 

Verbena High School

Verbena High School had a light week, but made the most of it winning its only game against Central of Coosa County High School 12-11 on April 18. Breanna Wright’s RBI single in the top of the seventh inning proved to be the winning run after Coosa cut it one run in the bottom half but could not tie the game. Wright was 3-for-4 with the RBI.

Meagan Shiver and Jaycee Quinn each had two hits, and Quinn added two RBIs. Lakeyn Mims, Kiara Ray and Abbegail Vazquez each contributed an RBI.

 

Chilton County High School

Chilton County High School dropped its first game of the week to Oak Mountain High School 7-2. Tyeshia Williams launched a home run, Anna Cate Burnett a double and Macey Pierce a single in the game.

The Tigers hopped into AHSAA Class 6A Area 5 play for the last two games of the week, the first hosting Calera High School on April 17 falling 8-2. Brianna Goggins was 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs to lead the way, followed by Emma Penley and Pierce with a double each.

The Tigers finished area play on April 18 beating Stanhope Elmore High School 11-10 to finish second in the area at 4-2. Three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning gave CCHS a 11-9 lead to win the game. Pierce and Williams were both 3-for-4 and combined for three RBIs. Mallie Harrison and Goggins each had two hits, and Harrison contributed three RBIs.

 

Jemison High School

Jemison High School finished its AHSAA Class 5A Area 7 schedule during the week, starting with a 6-4 defeat to Shelby County High School on April 15. The Panthers outhit Shelby County 10-8 in the game, and they were led by Trinity Bean with a 3-for-4 effort and a double. Braelyn Bradford and Abby Pate were each 2-for-4, and Hannah Popwell had 10 strikeouts in the circle.

The last area game for Jemison came on April 16 falling 15-0 to Sylacauga High School on the road. Bean was 2-for-2.

The Panthers dropped its April 18 game to Maplesville High School 15-0 as well. Bean was again 2-for2, Alyssa Hayes had a double and Arabella Lack had a single.

 

Billingsley High School

Billingsley High School found tough sledding during its week of play. The Bears dropped their last AHSAA Class 1A Area 6 game of the season on April 15 to Maplesville 11-5. Sadie Primm had a two-run home run, Caydin Hornady was 2-for-4 with a double and RBI, and Ada Willis had an RBI.

Billingsley fell to Isabella 8-3 the following day as Primm launched another home run in a 2-for-3 game pairing with a double and three RBIs. Shelby Boice and Hornady had singles for the other Bears’ hits in the game.

Billingsley traveled to Vincent High School for a doubleheader on April 18, dropping both games starting in game one 16-8. Primm continued her hot streak with two home runs and seven RBIs, and Boice was 3-for-4 with an RBI. Mckenna Manning added a 2-for-4 performance.

In game two, Billingsley dropped a close one 11-10 as Willis was 3-for-3 with two doubles and four RBIs. Claire Seamon and Boice each had three hits. Mallory Shanholtzer went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs in game two.
