Fair to benefit children again

Besides all the fun attendees have come to expect from the Chilton County Fair, the event also helps children in need.

For the sixth year, the Clanton Kiwanis Club will sponsor the fair, and proceeds will benefit Kiwanis charities.

“The Kiwanis Club, our focus is kids, so all the money we give away is for children,” said Maurice Lyn, club president.

The fair will last from Monday, Sept. 27 through Saturday, Oct. 2. Gates will open at 6 each evening except on Saturday, when the festivities will begin at 5 p.m.

Admission is $4, but children 3 and under get in free.

There is still time left for those wishing to participate in the exhibits. Entries must be brought to the exhibit building on Saturday, Sept. 25, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Baked goods to be entered in the fair should be brought on Sept. 27 between 8 and 9 a.m.
For more information on the exhibits, pick up a fair bulletin, available at various locations around the county.

A new attraction this year will be a performance by a local Tae Kwon Do group. Of course, the favorite attractions will be back.

“‘Blast From the Past’ has been pretty popular every year—it usually draws a pretty big crowd,” Lyn said. “And the Demolition Derby on Tuesday night, this is the fourth year for the derby, and it’s popular as well.”
