CALERA – Several Chilton County residents will have a say in the Calera municipal election this year.

The Chilton County Board of Registrars reported that there are 29 active voters and one inactive voter living in the Chilton County portion of City Council District 5.

As a result, mayoral candidates as well as those running for Calera City Council District 5 have filed with the Chilton County Probate Office in preparation for the upcoming municipal election.

“They come about two miles over into Chilton County,” Probate Judge Bobby Martin estimated.

The mayoral candidates are Jon Gilbreath Graham, Hank Lucas, Bobby Joe Phillips and Joey Collen Wideman.

Calera Mayor George Roy, who has served as mayor on and off since the 1960s, is not running for office.

Candidates who have qualified for City Council District 5 include: Brent Burgess, Mike Roberson and Alan Gary Watts.

Municipal elections are set for Tuesday, Aug. 26. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Calera has one voting place for the entire city. It is located at the Calera Community Center, 8560 Highway 31 (by Calera High School).
