Clanton Police Detective Robert Bland along with Detective David Kline have completed levels 1, 2 and 3 training of Statement Analysis.

The courses were provided by Auburn University at Montgomery and were sponsored by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs. The courses were free to law enforcement agencies.

Based on their training, Bland and Kline can now review written statements to tell if a person is being deceptive. The training received is the same training that FBI agents receive for Statement Analysis.

Some of the cases reviewed by both detectives were the JonBenét Ramsey case along with the transcript of the 911 call, the Joran Van der Sloot statement from Peru, and a cold case Shawn Beatty murder case from Bryan County, Okla.

“I feel that the training both of us received could not only benefit the Clanton Police Department but (also) any area agency that has a statement they feel may need to be reviewed,” Bland said.
