It was a joyous senior night for the Jemison Panthers volleyball team that resulted in a straight sets defeat of Thorsby 25-14, 25-18, 25-16.

The Panthers started out fast and furious and never let up throughout the entire match.

On a night that honored the five players who make up the current senior class, it was the seniors who made many of the crucial plays that proved influential in the victory.

Seniors led the team in many of the statistical categories, including Lauren Broussard with 12 assists, Kelsey Lowery with nine digs and Hannah Northcutt with six aces on the night. The other two seniors are Camille Hague and Aryn Caputo.

Carlee Wyatt of Thorsby was a force around the net and came up with some big blocks throughout the contest.

However, stats are not the only aspect of the game that the current group of Jemison seniors will be remembered for.

“It’s true leadership,” Jemison head coach Stephanie Bolling said. “That’s what it takes to get a team to come together and to be a success. They have an intensity about them, and they just don’t quit.”

Three of the five seniors have played each year of high school together and there is a bond that has developed over that time, between all five.

One of the things that they hope to pass down to the younger players is the importance of thinking as a team and not an individual.

“You can have all the talent in the world, but if you can’t play together and have heart for the game, it’s not going to work,” Lowery said.

Senior night, their five-set battles with Chilton County High School and freshman year are some of the experiences and memories that they said they would always carry with them from their time playing volleyball at Jemison.

“We can play all the ball we want outside of school, but it’s never going to be like school ball,” Hague said.
