The Chilton County Health Department received 150 doses of flu vaccine Wednesday, Clinic Supervisor Ludean Hicks reported.
The department held a flu shot clinic Friday, Oct. 16 from 8-11 a.m. and from 1-3 p.m. at the facility on Health Center Drive in Clanton.
All doses are for vaccinating against the traditional flu virus, and are not guaranteed to protect against H1N1 influenza or swine flu.
“If they want to get on the list, they can call us and make an appointment,” Hicks said. “We’re expecting some more [vaccine] but we don’t know when we’ll get it.”
The health department has a limited number of vaccines available for children 4 and older, she added, but none for children under 4.
“They still need to call,” she said.
Most facilities in the state are still awaiting shipments of H1N1 vaccine.
Hicks doesn’t know for certain when the first batch will arrive.
Sometime this fall, county health departments will administer free H1N1 shots to students in public schools upon the consent of parents.
“It will probably be the end of the month before we can get it,” Hicks said.
