Clanton Attorney Angie Avery Mayfield has been suspended for 90 days from practicing law following an admission of violating the terms of her two-year probation.

This suspension began on Aug. 6.

The Disciplinary Board of the

Alabama State Bar placed Mayfield on probation in October 2018. for violating the Alabama Rules of Professional Conduct.

According to documentation from the Disciplinary Board of the Alabama State Bar, these violations were reviewed after Carl Mims filed a complaint with the Alabama Bar Association.  Mims had paid Mayfield $781 in 2016 to file the necessary documentation for an eviction.

“These funds were not placed in Mayfield’s trust account as required by Rule

l.15(a),” according to the Order on Conditional Guilty Plea. “Mayfield did not file anything on Mims’ behalf … Mayfield failed to timely make a timely refund to Mims in violation of rule l.16(d) … Mayfield failed to produce complete and accurate records in violation of Rule l.15(e).”

Mayfield pled guilty to violating Alabama Rules of Professional Conduct pertaining to communication, safekeeping property and declining or terminating representation.

According to the Order on Consent to Revocation or Probation, “On July 7, 2020, Mayfield submitted a Consent to Revocation in which she admitted and agree that she violated the terms of her probation, as alleged by the Petition to Revoke Probation, by committing additional violations of the Alabama Rules of Professional Conduct while on probation and by failing to submit timely IOLTA reports … Mayfield further consented to the revocation of her probation and the imposition of the ninety-one (91) day suspension.”

Mayfield can apply for reinstatement on Nov. 6.
