Clanton police officer honored at Council meeting

Retired Clanton police officer Elijah Bearden was recognized in two separate ceremonies Monday during the Clanton City Council meeting.

State Rep. Jimmy Martin (R-Clanton) read a proclamation honoring Bearden, and then Clanton Police Chief Keith Maddox presented Bearden with his badge and gun in a ceremony performed for those who have at least 20 years of service to the department.

Bearden retired March 31 after 32 years with CPD.

In other business, the Council:

•Approved the cancellation of an agreement with ETA Data for services for the police department.

•Approved the hire of Ryan Ellison as part-time summer help at City Park.

•Approved the hires of Brian Jones, Mitchell Keener and Joseph Robinson in the Fire Department pending they pass physicals and drug tests.

•Approved the hire of Wanda Hughley at the Clanton Senior Center as requested by Center staff.

•Transferred the package store license for Hotspot Liquor and Tobacco from 1505 Seventh St. N. to 1000 Seventh St. N. Suite A.

•Approved minutes from the May 9 meeting.

•Approved paying necessary bills.
