Clanton First Methodist Church will hold a golf tournament at the Montevallo Golf Course on April 16 to raise money for a mission trip to Ecuador.

According to Clanton First United Methodist Pastor Rob West, it is not the first time that the church has held a golf tournament to benefit a charitable initiative. The most recent took place in the fall to help a family in need.

For the past 10 years, First Methodist has made annual trips to a Methodist church in Ecuador. However, this will be the first time that the youth of the church will be part of the mission trip.

The main reason for the trip is to help finish the construction efforts of the church’s third floor. All proceeds from the tournament will go toward funding the trip.

“The time of year and the weather has a lot to do with it,” West said. “A lot of people love to play golf.”

The tournament will be played using a four-person scramble format. This allows for a group of four to choose the best shot made between the players for the next stroke to be played.

The first-place finisher in the tournament will be awarded $300.

“The scramble makes it more enjoyable and gives everyone a chance,” West said.

Opportunity on the practice range will be allowed beginning at 7 a.m. with the tournament kicking off at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start.

An entry fee of $50 is required for each participant. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. the day of the event, but pre-registration is also available by picking up a form at the church office or calling (205) 755-0490.

Lunch is included with the entry fee and will be provided once play has wrapped up. Hickory Chip is expected to cater barbecue.

“There’s always an interest in missions,” West said. “This will allow for an opportunity to help.”
