Members of Hopewell Baptist Church in Clanton will participate in a stage play titled “Confessions” on March 19 at the Davis Theatre Performance Art Center in Montgomery.

Terrie Lynn Sailes is the director and producer of “Confessions” and the founder of Chains Production, which is behind the making of the play.

Her husband is Larry Sailes, who is the pastor at Hopewell Baptist Church in Clanton.

According to minister and actor Stacey Taylor, Sailes has written a couple of plays before for the church, but one day had an idea to get some people to come out to audition for something on an even bigger scale.

“Confessions” will be performed by actors and actresses and will take place at the Davis Theatre Performance Art Center in Montgomery that seats roughly 2,000 people.

According to Taylor, the play is designed to take viewers on an emotional journey while the entire time, offering a Godly message that is revealed at the end, that Taylor believes the majority of audience members will be able to relate to.

The group that consists of nine performers has been practicing for almost a year, and will also include professional singing talent with Joe Little, lead singer for the “Rude Boys,” and a guest appearance by Marvin Winans Jr., who has a background as a gospel singer.

“I think people will love it, because it’s just like a Tyler Perry production,” Taylor said.

As the show date approaches, the intensity and anticipation is expected to increase along with it.

“At first we were once a week, but now we’re practicing two to three days a week,” Taylor said. “It has been an adventure and taken some strong sacrifice and perseverance.”

Taylor plans to have a kickoff rally at some point in February. The goal of the rally will be to allow the Chilton County community to meet and interact with the cast members prior to “Confessions” being released to the public.

“I’m a firm believer in promoting yourself,” Taylor said. “If you give to the people, than people will give back to you. We want all the support that we can get.”

The doors for the event will open at 6 p.m., and the show is set to start at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25 for adults, $18 for students and $15 for kids.

According to Taylor, Sailes has set the goal of writing many more plays, with Part 2 coming out in March 2017.
