“This production features the talents of local youths trained by Festival Ballet Arts Academy dancing alongside professional guest artists from the Birmingham Ballet,” director Anna Curtis said. “The role of ‘Cinderella’ will be danced by Katherine Free, who has trained with the prestigious Bolshoi Ballet in Russia. The role of the prince will be danced by Christian Free, who has danced in various lead roles in Birmingham Ballet productions performed at the BJCC theatre and Concert Hall.”

This is the third year for the ballet program to present a spring production featuring dancers who are trained in the art of classical ballet.

“This is not a recital,” Curtis said. “This is a professionally produced production.”

Curtis described this year’s performance of “Cinderella” as “whimsical” and “enchanting” featuring set designs by local artist Sue Anne Hoyt, who has hand painted the backdrops; Sarah Jackson, who has designed a life-sized pumpkin coach; and Lena Rochester, who has constructed several of the professional tutus.

“The pumpkin coach is life-sized and three-dimensional,” Curtis said. “It is really neat.”

Students from Chilton County enrolled at FBA take classes throughout the year from Curtis, who teaches at Grace Fellowship Church in Clanton.

“We are really excited about the production this year,” Curtis said. “It is designed to be fun for all ages so we hope the community will come out and enjoy the production.”

Tickets are $10 per person and available at the door.
