Although Chilton County was under a flash flood watch through Monday, there were no reports of major flooding in the county.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood watch for Chilton County on Dec. 27 through Dec. 29 at 6 a.m.

Mark Rose with the National Weather Service in Calera said on Monday there was 1.82 inches of rain recorded for Chilton County with the majority of the heavy rain hitting Shelby and Jefferson counties.

“Most of the heavy rain that fell in Chilton County would have fallen Saturday night,” Rose said.

Rose said roughly 3 to 4 inches of rainfall fell over the weekend in Shelby and Jefferson counties along and south of the I-20 corridor.

“We had a flash flood watch covering Chilton County because we weren’t sure where the heaviest rain was going to fall,” Rose said.

Rose said rainfall totals for the previous week when a rainstorm hit the county before Christmas measured between 1.5 to 2 inches.

“Chilton County has received close to 4 inches of rain over the past week,” Rose said.

Chilton County Emergency Management Agency Director Derrick Wright said on Monday there were no reports of damage or flooding throughout the county over the weekend.

According to this week’s forecast, sunshine should return to the county on Tuesday with a high near 54 degrees.

Overnight lows on Tuesday are predicted to reach 33 degrees.

Wednesday should be mostly sunny with a high near 50 degrees and an overnight low of 28 degrees.

New Year’s Day should be mostly sunny with a high near 51 degrees.

A 30-percent chance of rain is predicted for the area Thursday night with a low of 38 degrees.
