Isabella’s season came to a heartbreaking end Friday with a 32-29 overtime loss at McKenzie.

The visiting Mustangs led 26-12 at the end of the third quarter but allowed their hosts to tie the game with about 8 minutes left to play.

In overtime, a C.J. LeCroy field goal on Isabella’s possession didn’t stand up.

The Mustangs’ defense forced a fourth-and-long, but McKenzie’s desperation heave into the end zone found a receiver for the win.

Trailing 6-0 after the opening possession of the game, four Tyler Smith runs took Isabella 66 yards and into the end zone for a tie game.

The Mustangs (6-3) then drove 86 yards, with the final 58 yards coming on a pass from Smith to Scottie Underwood.

After a McKenzie punting miscue, Isabella had to travel just 17 yards for its next score, a six-yard run by Smith that made it 20-6.

McKenzie (9-1) scored again in the first half to cut the lead to 20-12 at halftime.

A four-yard Smith touchdown run was answered by McKenzie, and then an Isabella fumble helped the hosts to the game-tying score.

Isabella appeared to have scored a touchdown on the first period of overtime, but the play was called back because of a penalty.
