More than 40 people attended a free wellness clinic sponsored by Chilton County Retired Educators on Tuesday at the YMCA of Chilton County.

The clinic was open to retired educators and active school system employees who are Public Education Employees Health Insurance Plan (PEEHIP) members.

For those not on Medicare, PEEHIP requires all members to have a check-up before May 30, 2015.

The clinic was first held in Chilton County last year.

“It was very thorough,” Retired Educators member Linda Hand said of the clinic, which included screenings for cholesterol, blood pressure, blood glucose and individual health issues.

Registered nurses with the Alabama Department of Public Health Wellness Division conducted the screenings.

Hand said Chilton County Retired Educators also held a flu clinic Oct. 21 to give flu shots to attendees.

Group members were glad to see the flu and wellness clinics have good turnouts.

“We’ve been really pleased with both of them,” Hand said.
