CCHS airs it out on ‘Tiger Day’

With the countdown to kickoff of the 2014 high school football season nearing an end, Chilton County High School took one last opportunity to fine tune its gameplan as it hosted its annual Tiger Day on Saturday.
The Clanton youth league got the day started as each of the three divisions (Midgets, Minors and Majors) of the Clanton Orange Tigers and Clanton Blue Tigers faced off against one another in exhibition play.

The Orange Tigers got the better of the Blue all day by sweeping all three divisions, with the Orange Midgets winning 30-18, the Orange Minors winning 32-14, and the Orange Majors winning 30-0.
With the youth league games in the books, the Chilton County High School varsity and junior varsity squads took to the field for a one-hour scrimmage to end the day.
Anthony Chavez and Trenton Bishop split time with the first-string offense, and both quarterbacks connected with Cade Hatch for long gains through the air.
Chavez found Hatch across the middle for a 37-yard gain that set up the offense with a first-and-goal from the 4-yard line before the drive stalled and ended on a missed field goal.
A 73-yard touchdown pass from Bishop to Hatch accounted for the first touchdown of the game.
Bishop connected on 6-of-10 passes for 150 yards, and Chavez completed 9-of-18 passes for 139 yards.
Hatch caught six passes for 162 yards, while Keishun White had six receptions for 105 yards.
Keshawn Williams added to the touchdown tally for the day after taking the handoff from Jarrett Ricks and rumbling 65 yards to the end zone.
Williams rushed six times for 84 yards.
The last touchdown of the day came by way of the defense when a pass attempt by Bishop ended up in the hands of Keandre Binion, who would then return the interception 28 yards for the pick-six.
With the regular season just days away, first-year CCHS coach Brian Bradford saw a couple of issues he hopes to tighten up before the season begins.
“We are trying to put in a new system, so we were a little sloppy,” Bradford said. “A couple of busted coverages, a couple of missed assignments, but we have been throwing a lot at them the past couple of weeks. Now we can actually put a game plan together, and it will help out a lot.”
The Tigers will begin their season with a road trip to Sylacauga at 7 p.m. on Friday.
