Locals vote in statewide races

In addition to the offices of sheriff, coroner, revenue commissioner, superintendent of education and state representative for District 42, Chilton County voters had the opportunity to vote for candidates in statewide races in the 2014 Primary Election on Tuesday.

Results of races listed below are unofficial since provisional ballots have not been counted yet.

Provisional ballots will be counted and election results certified next week.

•Governor

In Chilton County, incumbent Robert Bentley earned 8,199 votes (89.7 percent of the votes).

Stacy Lee George received 490 votes (5.4 percent), and Bob Starkey received 453 votes (5.0 percent).

In Alabama, Bentley earned 387,169 votes (89 percent of the vote) to win the Republican Primary for governor; George earned 25,076 votes (6 percent) and Starkey earned 21,088 votes (5 percent).

Parker Griffith accrued the majority of votes in the Democratic Primary for governor in Chilton County and Alabama.

Griffith received 166 votes (53.7 percent) in the county and 115,109 votes (64 percent) statewide, while Kevin Bass received 143 votes (46.3 percent) in the county and 64,962 votes (36 percent).

•Lieutenant Governor

In Chilton County, incumbent Kay Ivey earned 5,207 votes (59.5 percent).

Stan Cooke received 3,549 votes (40.5 percent).

In Alabama, Ivey earned 256,912 votes (62 percent) to win the Republican Primary for lieutenant governor, and Cooke earned 159,601 votes (38 percent).

•United States Representative, 6th Congressional District

In Chilton County, Will Brooke and Paul DeMarco were the top two vote-getters.

Brooke earned 1,797 votes (20.6 percent), and DeMarco earned 2,476 votes (28.3 percent).

Results for other candidates were as follows: Chad Mathis, 1,730 votes (19.8 percent); Gary Palmer, 1,575 votes (18.0 percent); Scott Beason, 966 votes (11.1 percent); Tom Vigneulle, 150 votes (1.7 percent); and Robert Shattuck, 46 votes (.5 percent).

In Alabama, DeMarco and Palmer were the top two vote getters.

DeMarco received 30,842 votes (33 percent), and Palmer received 18,627 votes (20 percent).

Results for other candidates were as follows: Beason, 14,428 votes (15 percent); Mathis, 14,400 votes (15 percent); Brooke, 13,076 votes (14 percent); Vigneulle, 2,394 votes (3 percent); and Shattuck, 587 votes (1 percent).

Neither DeMarco nor Palmer received at least 50 percent of the votes, which means they will proceed to the Primary Runoff Election on July 15.

•State Republican Executive Committee, Chilton County, Place No. 1

Renee Gentle Powers earned 4,285 votes (52.9 percent of the votes) to top Robert L. “Bob” Sanders, who earned 3,821 votes (47.1 percent).

•State Republican Executive Committee, Chilton County, Place No. 2

C.J. Robinson earned 5,246 votes (64.6 percent of the votes) to top Kay Fox, who earned 2,876 votes (35.4 percent).
