The Chilton County Commission approved Monday for a legislative bill related to funding the construction of a new hospital in the county to be called “Senate Bill 462” on the June 3 primary election ballot.

The commission passed a resolution granting Chilton County Probate Judge Bobby Martin permission to revise the wording to “Senate Bill 462” on the June 3 ballot.

The ballot will read: “Do you favor the adoption of SB-462 of the 2014 Regular Session of the Alabama Legislature which authorizes the County Commission of Chilton County to levy an additional one cent ($.01) sales tax which shall be used exclusively for the construction and maintenance of a hospital in Chilton county; and which shall expire on a date not later than four years after payment of bonds or warrants, or both, issued for the financing for the construction of a hospital as certified by the county commission?”

Below the question, voters may indicate ‘yes’ or ‘no’ by filling in the corresponding oval.

The bill recently passed the state House and Senate.

Communications Director Jennifer Ardis for Gov. Robert Bentley confirmed that Bentley’s office has received the bill, but he has not signed it yet as it is currently under legal review.

If Bentley signs the bill, the referendum should appear on the November General Election ballot, if not on a special ballot before then.
