Maplesville used a seventh-inning comeback to pick up their first win of the season on Thursday night.

Facing a two-run deficit going into the final inning of play, a four-run top of the seventh gave the Red Devils a 10-8 win on the road at Isabella.

Three consecutive base hits for the Devils (1-1) to start the game led to a three-run inning. After a single to right-center field, Damian Mitchell scored on a passed ball. Then, a Brandon Abbott single scored Trevor Wallace, and a Trent Smitherman single to right scored Abbott.

The Mustangs (1-2) cut the lead to two in the bottom half of the inning after Tyler Smith started the inning with a walk, to be later driven in on a Jeffrey Underwood double to right field.

A single by Zach Bush set up a run-scoring single by Smitherman to give Maplesville a 4-1 lead.

With two strikeouts and a ground ball out, Bush retired the Mustangs in order in the bottom half of the second inning.

After a scoreless third inning for both teams, the Red Devils added one more run in the top half of the fourth inning. With his second single of the game, Mitchell put his self in scoring position after stealing second and third bases.

A Wallace infield ground ball allowed Mitchell to cross home plate and gave the Red Devils a 5-1 lead.

The Mustangs matched the Red Devils’ fourth inning output with a run of their own via an Underwood score on a passed ball.

A scoreless inning for the Red Devils in the top of the fifth inning allowed the Mustangs to cut into the Maplesville lead in the bottom half of the inning.

With two on and one out, a Jacob Carroll double up the middle scored Benny Littlefield. Two batters later, Christopher Sherrill picked up his second straight double, allowing Carroll and Smith to cross the plate for the Mustangs.

After five innings of play, the game was tied up at 5-all.

A Wallace double set up a Colby Chambers run-scoring double to give the Red Devils a one-run lead in the top half of the sixth inning.

A second straight three-run inning by the Mustangs gave them their first lead of the game.

Johnny Pairrett reached base after being hit by a pitch and later scored on a passed ball, while a Jacob Davis double set up a Littlefield run-scoring infield grounder and a second double by Carroll scored De’Rodgus Campbell, who reached on an error.

Heading to the top of the seventh inning, the Mustangs led 8-6.

Facing a two-run deficit, the Red Devils got the seventh inning started on the right foot with a Brett Walker single and an RBI single by Chase Girlie to score Walker.

With one on and two out, a Mitchell single to deep right field scored Girlie, and a double to right by Wallace scored Mitchell. A double to left by Adam Harrison scored Wallace to give the Red Devils a two-run lead.

Maplesville called on Chambers to take on the role of closer to start the bottom of the seventh inning, and after giving up a single and a walk, he retired the next three Mustang batters in order with a ground ball out and two strikeouts to give the Red Devils the win.

Bush got the start on the mound for Maplesville and pitched 4 1/3 innings, giving up two earned runs with six strikeouts, five hits and three walks. Wallace led the Red Devils at the plate, going 3-for-5 with one single, two doubles, two RBI and three runs scored.

Carroll pitched a complete game for the Mustangs while giving up nine earned runs with four strikeouts, 15 hits and five walks.

Carroll also led Isabella at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.
