Another wave of winter weather could be hitting the state Wednesday, but Chilton County should only see rainfall.

“Chilton County will more than likely luck out for the most part with rain and temperatures staying above freezing,” said Kristina Sumrall with the National Weather Service in Calera. “There will be rain through the night on Tuesday with a change over to snow but that will be north of Chilton County.”

Sumrall cautioned the lines of storms move frequently and a change in temperatures could play a factor in what type of weather will hit certain places.

“A degree or two will make a lot of difference with this storm we are tracking,” Sumrall said. “Wednesday night you should see some snow flurries but there will be little to no accumulation because the temperature is only supposed to be 35 degrees.”

Sumrall said anyone planning to travel north on Wednesday could run into travel issues as parts of the state are under a winter storm warning regarding snow and sleet expected to hit Tuesday night.

The warning is in effect for Marion, Lamar, Fayette, Winston, Walker, Blount, Etowah, Calhoun, Cherokee, Cleburne, Jefferson and St. Clair counties, and will be in effect through midnight Wednesday.

“We aren’t expecting any accumulation in Chilton County other than rainfall,” Sumrall said. “At the same time, we are asking people to pay attention to the constantly updated forecast. Temperatures can easily be off in a forecast and in this case, if the temperatures ended up being lower you could see some slushy conditions Wednesday afternoon and Wednesday night. Just stay aware of the temperatures.”

Tuesday night lows are expected to reach 37 degrees with a 100-percent chance of precipitation.

A 90 percent chance of rain is expected on Wednesday with a high of 41 degrees.

Snow is likely on Wednesday night, mainly before midnight with a 60-percent chance of precipitation.

Wednesday night temperatures should be around 35 degrees with little or no snow accumulation expected.
