Slaughterhouse Hayride owner Jason Cleckley has always enjoyed Halloween and wanted to have his own haunted attraction for the occasion.

Luckily for him, his family owns more than 40 acres of land in Jemison that is perfect for such an event.

“I have loved scaring people since I was young,” Cleckley said. “I would always hide out in the bushes for hours to scare my family when they got home.”

Cleckley created the Slaughterhouse Hayride two years ago. Previously, he helped with a few haunted houses and hayrides in the county.

“I always had good ideas for haunted houses and hayrides.” Cleckley said. “So, I decided it was time to do my own.”

Thanks to a little extra time and help from family and friends, the scenes have become more detailed this year. He has added several different lighting effects and music to make each scene come to life.

Some of the characters included in the hayride are clowns, savage rednecks, mad scientists and many other masked creatures that might jump out and scare everyone during the ride.

Characters are not allowed to touch visitors.

“We want to scare them, but, we also want our visitors to have a safe and fun ride,” Cleckley said.

The haunted hayride takes about 30 minutes to complete and is open to everyone.

Slaughterhouse Hayride is open from 7 p.m.-midnight Oct. 25, 26 and 31st.

Ticket prices are $8 for the hayride, and ages 10 and under are free.
