Street lights were the main topic of Monday’s Thorsby Town Council meeting.

The council voted unanimously (except for councilwoman Nicole Hilyer, who was absent) to have a street light installed off Highway 31 near Alabama Avenue.

Installation of the light would cost the town $1,080.10 up front and $7.76 a month for as long as the light was there.

A street light on Tuscaloosa Avenue was also discussed but not brought up for a vote.

A third street light, this one near Julia Circle, was discussed, and council members wanted a chance to look at the area before voting on the matter.

In other business, the council:

•Changed meeting times from 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Councilman Randall Higgins said the later time would make it easier for him and other council members to make the meetings.

•Heard from councilman Glenn Littleton that a concrete wall was falling in at the town’s Scandinavian Cemetery, possibly because of recent rainfall. Public Works Director Terry Jackson said he would go examine the situation and look for a resolution.

•Approved the minutes from the town’s variance board.
