First book lecture to be held in library’s renovated room

Warren Trest of Montgomery will speak about his book, “Wings of Denial,” that tells the story of four Alabama Air National Guardsmen who died at the Bay of Pigs in 1961.
The Chilton-Clanton Public Library will host the first book lecture in the newly renovated conference room on Aug. 27 at 2 p.m.
Chilton-Clanton Library director Kelly Easterling said he is excited for visitors to see the new renovations and thought it would be a good time to host a book lecture.
“I really want people to see what has been done to the library,” Easterling said.

The deeds of the four men were found after four decades of government denial and Trest tells their stories in his book published in 2001.
“I have several book lectures set up for the remainder of this year,” Easterling said. “It is nice to now know that we have a really nice facility to have them and I hope people will come out and enjoy the new renovations.”
The Chilton County Commission completed renovations to the library’s conference room earlier this month by adding beige carpet and cream-colored paint to the 660-square-feet-room.
The commission voted to repair parts of the library due to water damage in parts of the library’s interior that happened several years ago.
A heavy rainstorm in 2012 poured water through the pre-existing leak in the conference room and water poured behind the paneled walls inside as well as on the carpet.
With a fear that mold might have grown behind some of the paneling in the conference room due to paneling buckling in some places from the water damage, the commission voted to approve repairs on June 24.
Contractors came and repaired the walls and found no mold behind the paneling.
With the new repairs to the walls inside the room and the carpet paid for by the library, Easterling hopes to have a new set of activities planned for the library.
In addition to monthly book lectures from various authors in Alabama, Easterling also hopes to purchase surround sound speakers, a Blu-ray player and an overhead projector to host family movie nights at the library.
