More than 30 fourth graders at Clanton Intermediate School were rewarded for their hard work Friday with a special tea.

The teas are held regularly to honor all fourth graders who earn A’s in all their coursework. Parents and grandparents are allowed to attend.

State Rep. Cam Ward, candidate for Alabama Senate District 14, was the guest speaker at Friday’s tea.

“A leader is someone who does the right thing when no one is looking. That’s the definition of a good leader,” Ward told the students.

He went on to explain the importance of not seeking credit but instead helping make other people’s lives better.

Clanton Intermediate Principal Dennis Cobb then told a story from his childhood that echoed the meaning of leadership. Then, Ward handed out certificates to each of the students.

Those recognized were: Nathan Adams, Chyna Bell, Raven Brown, Josh Burnett, Jaymie Chandler, Clayton Collum, Sam Dewell, Kristine Easterling, Carter Giles, Caitlyn Jones, Giquon Lane, Allie Lightsey, Riley Lock, Gage Minor, Macy Minor, Madison Minor, Jacob Myers, Emily Parrish, Kaitlyn Prima, Elizabeth Sewell, Kiki Shaw, Landon Simmons, Anna Smith, Cason Smith, Emilee Smith, Daylin Stange, Joshua Traywick, Amaya White, Madeline Willis, Hannah Wilson, Scarlett Wilson, John Young.
