The city of Clanton will re-submit a grant application for a sewer project in the West End community following a vote by the City Council on Monday.

Grant writer Louise Campbell recommended the city seek a grant for $450,000. The city would need to match the grant with about $261,000 to complete the sewer system upgrades on the south side of Fourth Avenue North, from 15th Street west to Martha Street.

A grant request last year for the project was not received.

In other business, the council:

•Approved the transition of a Sanitation Department employee from part-time to full-time.

•Allowed City Clerk Debbie Orange to attend the Municipal Clerk Academy in Tuscaloosa.

•Heard from Jana Zuelzke from Child Protect Children’s Advocacy Center. The city regularly donates to the center, which is a non-profit organization that helps law enforcement with child abuse cases. Zuelzke highlighted the center’s work and growth and asked the council to consider giving more money next fiscal year. “We’ve added a numerous amount of services for these kids,” Zuelzke said.
