Man struck by car on Highway 31

An 83-year-old male was struck by a vehicle on U.S. Highway 31 South at 8:10 p.m. on Wednesday.

The incident occurred near Fulmer Drive when the victim crossed the highway and was struck by a vehicle traveling south on Highway 31.

The victim was crossing the road to return to his home on Fulmer Drive.

Clanton Fire Department and CARE Ambulance treated the patient on scene who sustained serious injuries.

An emergency helicopter was dispatched and the victim was transported to UAB.

Clanton Police Department Traffic Homicide Investigators (THI) David Hicks and Patrick Quinley are investigating the accident.

CPD had U.S. Highway 31 blocked and rerouted traffic for more than an hour Wednesday night.

Currently, alcohol and speed are not factors being considered in the case.

“This looks to be just a tragic accident,” CPD police chief Brian Stilwell said in a press release. “CPD hopes for a speedy recovery for the victim.”
