Churches unite to help schools

All congregations in Chilton County are being called to come together as one “Church Family” to support and help Chilton County schools and students.

Superintendent Dave Hayden and Wayne Cole, director of New Life – New Hope, an outreach ministry of New Life Community Church, have joined forces and are asking each county church to participate and sponsor or help sponsor one of the county’s schools.

“With proration in the near future, our county schools and our children need our support more than ever,” said Cole, coordinator of the event. “Monetary donations and supplies are welcomed.”

The sponsorship will include raising school supplies in June and July, then donating the supplies to their sponsored school on Monday, Aug. 1.

A meeting will be held in May with all involved churches, where Hayden and Cole will discuss the project, assign schools and hand out lists of supplies needed.

“We have to keep our kids on the same playing field with those students at other schools,” said Cole. “We want to give our kids as much of an opportunity as possible to compete at the college level.”

Prior to the meeting in May, Cole will be available by phone at 755-6485 or will come to your church to present or answer questions concerning the Church Family project.

“The more we can donate to the schools, the more the board does not have to go into the reserved funds,” said Cole.

For more information or to add your church as a school sponsor, contact the Chilton County Board of Education at 280-3000 or New Life Community Church at 755-6485.

The cut-off for churches to choose a school to sponsor is April 29.
