Both Chilton County High School soccer teams picked up wins during their week’s action on the pitch.

The varsity boys battled through fierce winds at Marbury High School on Feb. 27 for a 5-3 win. Ramses Salgado opened the scoring for the Tigers, and they built a 4-1 cushion before halftime. Salgado posted a hattrick in the match, and Zakori Jackson and Ignacio Peralta each added a goal to power past Marbury.

In the Tigers second match of the week on Feb. 29, their first home match since Feb. 13, they went into a 3-0 hole within the first 50 minutes of the match against Prattville Christian Academy. With 26 minutes left in the match, Jorge Castillo got CCHS on the board, and a barrage of shots and possession followed.

Castillo put in his second goal shortly after his first, then Tomas Bores Soler converted the equalizer to complete the comeback. With just over a minute left, Jose Contreras found space and found the winner for the Tigers to move them to 9-1-1 on the season.

“This is a special group, and there’s no quit in them,” CCHS varsity boy’s head coach Brandon Gurganus said. “As frustrating as it was to watch us miss so many shots, it was so incredibly thrilling to watch our guys fight through it, and find a way to win.”

The Tigers two wins and great season so far found themselves ranked No. 8 in the latest AHSAA Coaches’ Poll for week four that was released on March 3.

CCHS was tripped up 2-1 in its match at Demopolis High School on March 4 for only its second loss of the season. The varsity boys are back on the pitch on March 8 hosting McAdory High School at 7 p.m. The junior varsity boys team will play McAdory at 5:30 p.m.

Chilton County’s varsity girl’s soccer team faced off against Marbury as well on Feb. 27, and goals from Charleigh Hicks and Jessica Flores helped boost the Tigers. However, Marbury took the win 3-2, and PCA downed CCHS 3-0 on Feb. 29. The team got back in the win column on March 4 against Demopolis winning 2-1, and improving to 4-6 overall this season. The varsity girls are off until March 12 when they host Benjamin Russell High School at 5:30 p.m.

Both CCHS junior varsity soccer teams got some run at the Sylacauga JV Tournament from March 1-3. The JV girls won their division of the tournament to claim some hardware, beating Sylacauga High School 4-0 and Horseshoe Bend High School 3-0. The JV boys went 1-2 in their division, beating Tuscaloosa County 2-1 and falling to both Mountain Brook and Briarwood high schools 1-0.
