The City of Clanton Arts Council wants to showcase local talent in Chilton County’s Got Talent.

Although auditions will be in Clanton, this opportunity is open to everyone in the county with a talent to share. Auditions will be April 24 and May 6 at Senior Connection, 304 Park Plaza in Clanton 2-4 p.m., so interested participants can choose the day that works best for them.

Entry fee is $50. Deadline to register is April 21 at clantonal.gov or by filling out an application at Clanton City Hall, 505 Second Ave. N.

Debbie Street, president of the City of Clanton Arts Council, said the idea for the event grew out of conversations with Chilton County Chamber of Commerce director Rachel Martin and members of the Merchants Association of Chilton County.

“I think everybody thought it was something that would be a great fit because Chiton County has a lot of talent,” Street said. “… It is a way to promote the county, promote our locals and its entertaining, so that helps to pull people from outside the state. It is another reason to visit Chilton County during Peach Festival.”

Those who advance to the competition phase will compete on the Corner Park stage during Clanton CityFest in June. The plan is to have nine advance to this round, but the number could change based on participation.

“It is not just about singing,” Street said, emphasizing that all talent is welcome. “The goal of auditions is just to make sure it is a family-friendly entertainment … or talent, and we just want to know what we have coming.”

Street said the competition creates an opportunity for adults, who might not have the same opportunities as students, to show their talent.

“I think it is just another great way to bring the citizens together and really enjoy what Chilton County has to offer,” Street said.

Anyone interested in being a judge for any of the audition of competition nights should contact Street at dstreet@clantonal.gov.

“We are not looking for someone with professional credentials per se,” Street said. “Dance instructors, music coaches, anybody that has had some sort of experience in the arts in general.”
