Chris Ewing of Maplesville has called in some music friends from as far away as Nashville to help a local family in a difficult time.

A concert, Trouble in a Smalltown, to raise funds for the Hollis family has been scheduled for Feb. 18 at Maplesville Park at 674 Shanks Drive.

Brooke Hollis suffered an anoxic brain injury after she was thrown from a horse in a riding accident. Updates on her recovery have been shared with family and friends on the Prayers for Brooke Facebook page.

Ewing said his wife knew the family, and he wanted to find a way to help.

“They needed help with equipment and stuff like that,” Ewing said.

The benefit concert has grown beyond what he had initially thought becoming more of a festival as more people have wanted to be involved.

Ewing said the event will be from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., featuring food trucks and vendors before the musicians take the stage at noon. Various groups will perform throughout the afternoon and into the night. Groups that have committed so far include Nashville recording artist Chad Wilson, Patrick Barnett, Faded Memory, Caleb Orr and Jared Hill. Ewing will also be performing. DJ Trouble will keep the music going in between bands.

Ewing said the event was a way for him to help someone in the community, while doing something new.

“I do music for a living (and) wanted to do something in my hometown that I had never done before,” Ewing said.

Admission tickets will be $10. Children 5 years old and younger can get in for free. Tickets are available here.

Anyone interested in being a vendor or a food truck at the event can contact Ewing at 334-267-9510.
