The Jemison Lions Club made three $500 donations to Jemison schools on Feb 14. The club donated the money to Jemison Elementary, Jemison Intermediate and Jemison Middle schools for general needs the schools may have.

“We are so elated and blessed to have the support of the Jemison Lions Club,” Rosalyn Dixon, principal of Jemison Intermediate School, said. “That organization as a whole is very supportive of the community and the schools. The Jemison club is no different, and they have been so welcoming.”

Dixon said the Lions Club reached out to inquire about the needs of the school and the club responded quickly.

“We told them some of our projects and next thing you know, they show up with a check,” Dixon said.

Jemison Elementary School used the donation to fund a fence to go around a child play area at the school. A member of the Lions Club has a grandchild at the school, and the club requested the donation be used for that purpose.

“Some of our members have been teachers or administrators, and the schools are a centerpiece in our community,” Rex Bittle, Jemison Lions Club president said. “We’re a small community, and the schools are a big operation happening in our town.”

The Lions Club is heavily involved with Jemison High School as well. The club already made a $500 donation to the FFA department in December 2021. The club also sponsors the Leo Club at JHS which is a program for young people to join and grow up learning about service. The hope is the students will join the Lions Club when they are out of school.

The Jemison Lions Club was chartered in 2016 and has continued to find ways to give to the Jemison community.

“We’re always looking for ways to help those who have needs in the community and we want to try to meet those if possible” Bittle said. “Our international motto is ‘We Serve,’ and we’re always looking for ways to do that.”
