The Chilton/ Clanton Public Library is holding some fun contests in December.

One gives the chance to win a free book. The other rewards children and youth that check out the most books.

The library is also giving the community a gift of its own by waiving the usual fee to get a library card.

“We are actually trying to get more people to use the library,” Children’s Librarian Rene Chambers said.

She said this is for both those who have never had one and for those who are needing a replacement card.

To be entered into the drawing for a free new book, people can visit the library and register for the book they are interested in. For those who do not want to wait to read the book, the titles are also available to be checked out from the library, Chambers said.

There are titles for both children and adults. The drawing will be on Dec. 20.

The contest for checking out the most books is open to children and students from birth to high school.

Children with the most books checked out for their age group in December will receive a gift card. Age groups are birth to 5 years, kindergarten to second grade, third to fourth grade, fifth to sixth grade and seventh grade to high school.

Chambers said the books need to be checked out using a card with the child’s name on it for it to count for the contest. The winner of each age group will receive a $25 gift card.

The contest ends Dec. 20.

Chambers said library cards are free for students throughout the year.

Weekly story time will return to the library in January, starting Jan. 11 at 10 a.m. with activities geared toward ages birth to 2 years old, and Jan. 12 at 10 a.m. will be geared toward ages 3-5.

The story times will be at 10 a.m. each Tuesday and Wednesday after that.

The Chilton/ Clanton Public Library is located at 100 First Ave. in Clanton. The library is open Monday- Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
