The Chilton-Clanton Public Library has tallied the totals for participation in the 2019 Summer Reading Program and is pleased with the results.

Children’s librarian Renee Chambers said the program was a week longer than last year and saw good participation.

“The children that participated checked out and read books and were rewarded for reading,” Chambers said.

The program is open to children up to sixth grade.

There were seven events held as a part of the program this year, ranging from magical poodles and a ventriloquist to a pizza party. Chambers said the combined attendance for these events was 603.

“Our main goal with this is to get children to use the library and check out books,” Chambers said.

Those participating in the program checked out 1,484 books.

Chambers said the highlights for her were “seeing the excitement of the children as they came to the events and checked out books.”

She also enjoyed meeting new people at the events.

Chambers said the Summer Reading Program has consistently had good participation in recent years.

Now that the summer is over, Toddler Story Time will return to Tuesday mornings at 10 a.m. starting on Sept. 10. Lego Block Party will continue meeting each Thursday at 2 p.m.

Chambers is also excited about a Christmas event she has planned. Lee Andrews Productions will bring Santa to the library on Dec. 19. Santa will read to children and be available for photos.
