The Jemison City Council was pleased with the percentage of cases the Jemison Police Department closed while discussing a recent report during a meeting on July 16.

The report stated the JPD had a closure rate for calls of 88%.

Councilman Rex Bittle asked what is considered a good closure rate, commenting that the department’s rate seemed to be a strong number.

Assistant Chief Marc McMinn said the state average was 45%.

“We’re the best in the county,” Mayor Eddie Reed said of the closure rate.

Bittle asked if McMinn knew of a specific reason for the listed 31% increase in call volume.

“So many of the numbers look good, they are down (specific incidents),” Bittle said.

McMinn did not have a specific reason for an increase in volume. However, Reed said several calls come in from the surrounding areas outside the Jemison city limits. Reed said the department is constantly receiving calls.

Councilman George Brasher pointed out that the department also responds with the Jemison Fire & Rescue on rescue calls.

The Council and McMinn also discussed that the department keeps officers up–to-date on their training to be able to serve well and handle complex and dangerous situations that may arise.

The Council expressed also their appreciation for the department.

The Council approved paying the bills and closed the meeting.
