Collins Chapel Baptist Church will host a night of fun and inspiration with Bill King as Brother Billy Bob Bohannon on May 3 at 6:30 p.m.

Pastor William Kee said this is the first time the church has had King come, but Kee has seen him perform at a Chilton Baptist Association meeting.

“He has this persona that he does,” Kee said. “He is hilarious.”

King, who lives in Opelika, also sings inspirational music during his routine.

According to the Brother Billy Bob Bohannon website, the character was originally created for a Valentine’s Day event and meant to be a one-time performance. However, when requests were made for repeat performances, King decided to go for it.

He has made up to 60 appearances as Billy Bob in the same year.

King is also an author. His books and music will be for sale at the Chilton County event.

A suggested $10 donation is being asked per ticket. Tickets can be purchased at the door or at Money Mart in Thorsby prior to the event.

Funds raised will go to the church’s building fund. Kee said the funds will be used for maintenance, upkeep and future projects.

“There are some renovations that need to be done,” Kee said.

Collins Chapel Baptist Church is located at 14366 County Road 29 in Jemison.
