En Fuego Ministries is gearing up to host one of its largest headliners to-date for En Fuego 2018, set for Aug. 25.

Big-time Christian rock band Skillet will be rolling into Verbena to perform a free concert, alongside Christian music artists Sidewalk Prophets, Ryan Stevenson, Rhett Walker Band, Bonray and Tony Nelson.

“Skillet’s probably normally a $40 ticket or more, and we’ve got Skillet, as well as several other artists, and it’s a totally free event — that’s kind of unheard of,” Kevin George, En Fuego Ministries board member, said.

En Fuego has been described as a “Christian Woodstock,” and will feature a full day of worship, prayer, evangelism and shopping from a variety of vendors.

In recent years, the event has drawn tens of thousands of the region’s youth to the Verbena hillside property — and it only seems to grow with each passing year.

George said the En Fuego has one primary goal: evangelism.

“We want to reach people with the Gospel, and we want to see lives changed when they leave the hill,” he said. “We want them to not leave the same as when they got there.”

Skillet may draw a new crowd.

“Skillet gets a lot of radio time on secular stations, so we’re praying that the artist will bring in a lot of un-churched people, because our event is designed to be an evangelistic event to reach people for Christ,” George said. “We really believe Skillet’s going to bring in a large, un-churched crowd.”

En Fuego Ministries relies on donations and sponsorships to host the music festival each year.
