The Master Gardeners of Chilton County is hosting its first ever Home for the Holidays fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 15, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

The fundraiser will have vendors that will offer seasonal decorating crafts, homemade jewelry, produce and plants.

“This will be a neat way for people to look at crafts,” said master gardener Pat Farmer. “It should be a fun chance for some people to sample some items and find some crafts to decorate their homes for all of the holidays coming up.”

A second chance room will offer people like new items for resale to all people in attendance.

Vendors will also offer door prizes, which will be drawn for every 15 minutes throughout the fundraiser.

There will also be a tasting table where everyone in attendance will not only be able to sample several different snack items, but also take home a recipe book that will hold the recipes of all the snacks they tasted.

Farmer said the vice president of the gardeners has done this at home for several years and enjoyed it, so now they are going to try it out this year to see how Chilton County likes it.

“This is a new one for us and I think it will be fun for the people of Chilton County to come out and enjoy everything we will have to offer,” she said.

Tickets are $10 and must be purchased prior to the event. Payment methods include, cash, check and a credit or debit card.

“The fundraiser is to help the master gardeners add to our funds in order to put on the programs that we do throughout the year,” Farmer said.

At the end of the fundraiser there will be a raffle for a crafting basket, which will include something donated from each of the vendors in attendance.

Part of the proceeds from admission ticket and raffle ticket sales will go toward this year’s 4 H’s Community Project, Butterfly Bridges.

“I’m retired and not from this area, so doing these events is just a way to meet the people of Chilton County,” Farmer said. “I just enjoy doing this and helping the people of the county as most of the master gardeners do. That’s why we volunteer; we just want to assist the people of Chilton County.”

Tickets can be purchased at the Chilton County Extension Office located at 504 1st Avenue North in Clanton.

“We invite everyone to come and see our very first home for the holidays, taste some treats and see some wonderful crafts,” Farmer said.
