Pastor Jeff Carroll’s text came from John 8:1-11,”Caught In The Act.”
Jesus was in the temple about the Father’s business preaching the gospel, when the Scribes and Pharisees brought before him a woman who had been caught in the act of adultery.
Now Moses in the law commanded us that such should be stoned, but what do you say? This they said testing him that they might have something to accuse him. We know that the taking of another man’s wife or another woman’s husband is adultery, just as having a sexual relationship with a man or woman out of wedlock is fornication.
As man shall not lie with man, nor woman shall not lie with woman, for it is an abomination unto God. Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground, with his finger as though he had not heard. So when they continued asking him he raised himself up and said to them he who is without sin cast the first stone at her.
Then those heard it being convicted by their conscience went out one by one beginning with the oldest, even to the last. They were caught in the act, just as we all have been at one time or another in our sin. Jesus was left alone with the woman standing in his midst.
When Jesus had raised himself up and saw no one but the woman, he said to her, “Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?” She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you go and sin no more.”
In closing, you do not have to be ashamed of condemnation, by walking in the flesh as a broken vessel, guilty.
Jesus came to save the broken, to set us free of the shackles of our sin. Are you still in bondage? Caught in the act of your sin or are you set free?
We see America is caught in the act of turning her back on God. Let us pray that America will repent and return to one nation under God again. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
