“Shannon has been attending the hospital board meetings and has been reporting back to us so if it is OK with the commission, I would like to appoint him to that position permanently,” Caton said.

Commissioners voted in favor of Caton appointing someone to fill the position.

Caton then appointed Welch during the meeting to serve as the liaison and report back to the commission with any updates and developments from the hospital board.

In other news, the commission:

•Voted to advertise a job position for a new county EMA director. Commissioners accepted the current county EMA Director Bill Collum’s intent to retire during the Nov. 12 commission meeting. Commissioners hope to create a committee or board of individuals to interview applicants for the job.

•Voted to give Caton authority to take bids for restroom renovations at the Chilton County Courthouse. Welch voted to accept the specifications as presented for renovations for the bathroom and the specifications will be bid out. Everyone voted in favor.

•Voted to give Chilton County Sheriff Kevin Davis $5,000 to purchase a Connex container to place records which are currently being stored in the attic of the Chilton County Jail. Davis was not present at Monday’s meeting but county administrator Connie Powell spoke on his behalf. Powell explained that the jail was inspected by a fire marshal who gave Davis 30 days to have the records taken from the attic and stored in a different location. Davis requested permission from the commission to give him $5,000 to purchase a Conex container to place all of the records from the attic in the container. Everyone voted in favor. The money will be taken from the county’s Capital Improvement Fund.

•Voted to appoint Carl Zeigler to fill a position on the Chilton County Solid Waste Authority. Commissioner Bobby Agee explained that D.J. Nix was approved by the commission during the Dec. 9 commission meeting to fill a six-year term on the Solid Waste Authority that would expire June 25, 2019. Agee explained on Monday that he found out Nix did not live in Chilton County and did not meet the residential requirements to serve on the board. Agee asked commissioners to suspend the rules and allow Zeigler to be placed in the position that Nix was previously appointed to fill.

Everyone voted in favor to appoint Zeigler to the position.
