The Chilton County Relay For Life was nearly halfway to its fundraising goal of $175,000 at the start of Bank Day on April 26 at West End Baptist Church.

Teams comprised of individuals and businesses turned in money they had raised for Relay from 1-5 p.m.

“I’m fully confident that Relay will make their goal,” said Ashley Wilkinson, North Alabama area director of the American Cancer Society. “This is one of the highest years for the number of teams participating. We are excited.”

Wilkinson said every campsite is full for the overnight event April 27.

“There is something for everyone,” Wilkinson said. “We encourage the community to come out. You do not have to be on a team.”

A cancer survivor breakfast sponsored by Tim Little was held Thursday morning at Clanton First United Methodist Church.

“We had a really good survivor breakfast this morning,” said Linda Hand, a local Hero of Hope and Relay committee member. “It was just kind of a kickoff for tomorrow. We’re ready to go to the park.”

The 2012 Relay For Life will begin Friday, April 27 at 6 p.m. and will end Saturday, April 28 at 6 a.m. at the youth league football field at Clanton City Park.

In case of severe weather, which is not forecasted, Relay will be moved inside Clanton First United Methodist Church.
