Xarien Sheppard and Jocelyn Maza, pre-kindergarteners at Clanton Elementary School, play with rubber ducks at one of their classroom centers April 12.

Clanton Elementary School is currently accepting applications for three 4-year-old kindergarten classes.

The classes will serve 54 children selected through a lottery drawing May 3.

Students selected will attend daily from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and follow the established Chilton County Board of Education school schedule.

These pre-kindergarten classes offer students opportunities to develop academically, socially and emotionally.

Time is invested daily in whole group instruction, small group instruction, learning centers, field trips and other activities developmentally appropriate for 4-year-old children.

Interested parents should pick up an application at CES before April 30.

All applications must be returned to the school before the close of the school day April 30.

The classes are grant-based classes contingent upon receiving grant funds for the 2012-2013 school year.

In order for the classes to receive grant funding, CES must have enough interest from the community to fill all 54 spots and have a 20-person waiting list.
