Commission, BOE candidates decided

Chilton County voters went to the polls Tuesday to vote in the Republican Presidential primary as well as local county commission and board of education races.
All Republican incumbents for Chilton County Commission finished in the top seven of 10 candidates and will advance to the Chilton County Commission.
The seven candidates with the most votes were: Commission Chairman Tim Mims (10,988 votes or 23.53 percent), incumbent Allen Caton (6,184 votes or 13.25 percent), incumbent Joe Headley (5,338 votes or 11.43 percent), Shannon Welch (4,848 votes or 10.38 percent), incumbent Greg Moore (4,691 votes or 10.05 percent), Tommy Michael Smitherman (3,948 votes or 8.46 percent) and Aubry Lee Wallace (3,480 votes of 7.45 percent).
The next three finishers were Wyndell Patterson (3,207 votes or 6.87 percent), Ron Hollon (2,365 votes or 5.07 percent) and Ronnie Gilbert (1,639 votes or 3.51 percent).
For the Chilton County Board of Education the top seven Republican vote getters who will advance to the general election were Lori Reynolds Patterson (7,751 votes of 16.60 percent), Curtis Smith (6,652 votes or 14.25 percent), Linda L. Hand (5,456 votes or 11.69 percent), Jim C. Shannon (4,815 votes or 10.31 percent), Keith Moore (4,561 votes or 9.77 percent), Pam Plier Price (4,522 votes or 9.69 percent) and Joe Mims (4,438 votes or 9.51 percent).
The next three finishers were Charla Giles Doucet (3,260 votes or 6.98 percent), incumbent George Walker (2,726 votes or 5.84 percent) and Gina Willis (2,503 votes or 5.36 percent).
While AP projected Rick Santorum to win Alabama on Tuesday, Newt Gingrich was the top choice for Chilton County resident. Gingrich won 36.27 percent of the vote here compared to Rick Santorum’s 25.41 percent and Mitt Romney’s 20.98 percent.
Spencer Bachus was also expected to win re-election to the U.S. Congress. His 6th Congressional District includes all of Chilton County. He won 60.37 percent of the vote in Chilton County.
There weren’t enough candidates in the Democratic primaries to have those candidates on the ballot. Democrats Bobby Agee, Robert Binion, Heedy Hayes and Dwight Swindle are running for the county commission and Howard Daugherty, Tommy Headley and Ann THomas are running for the BOE.
