Important to remember Constitution

Dear Editor,

The members of the Pocanachi Chapter of the Daughters Of The American Revolution would like to remind your readers that Friday, Sept. 17 was nationally recognized as Constitution Day. This year marks the 223rd anniversary of the signing of the United States Constitution.

In 1787, 55 delegates spent a long, hot summer hammering out the details of a document that still insures our country’s democracy today. This masterpiece consisted originally of a Preamble and seven articles, all establishing the framework of a government unlike any seen before. Patrick Henry is credited with saying “The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people, it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government.”

Please take the time to re-read the Constitution and impart upon your children and grandchildren its importance to our nation. On this 223rd anniversary, let us all reflect on the rights and responsibilities of citizenship and rededicate ourselves to the support and defense of the United States Constitution.
