A Verbena woman was injured Sunday morning after the vehicle she was driving struck and killed a Louisiana man who had wandered onto I-12 eastbound, Louisiana State Police confirmed.

The man, identified as Daryl L. Horne, 47, had allegedly stabbed his wife and two kids before fleeing his home near Covington, La. earlier that morning. The wreck occurred shortly after 5 a.m.

Brenda Arseneau, 43, of Verbena was transported to Northshore Regional Medical Center along with her passenger, 42-year-old Loaeza Salomon of Houston. Arseneau was driving a Nissan Altima.

Horne apparently got into an argument with his wife after returning home from a casino.

During the argument, he allegedly began stabbing his wife, along with their son and daughter, using kitchen knives.

Horne then fled in a 2007 Ford Expedition and crashed on the side of I-12, then got out of his vehicle and walked onto the Interstate, where he was struck and killed.

The stabbing victims were transported from a neighbor’s house to St. Tammany Parish Hospital with serious injuries, and the mother was taken to University Hospital in New Orleans for further treatment, the Times-Picayune reports.

No charges will be filed against Arseneau because pedestrians are prohibited on the Interstate, police said.
