Sportsmen’s Spectacular set for Saturday

If you love the outdoors, you don’t want to miss the fourth annual Sportsmen’s Spectacular this Saturday at Liberty Hill Baptist Church.

Activities will include skeet shoot, archery, turkey shoot and a cowboy cooking demonstration. There will also be plenty of kid-friendly activities, and, of course, food.

The event is free and open to the community.

“We were looking for something that people would enjoy doing,” event coordinator Kevin Nelson said. “It’s a good way for outdoors people to get together and have a good time.”

Outdoor activities will begin at 12:30 p.m. on church grounds and continue throughout the afternoon. Kids’ games and activities will be held just outside the family life center.

During the cooking demonstration, local resident Jody Scott will demonstrate “cowboy” cooking in a Dutch oven.

A wild game supper will be served at 5 p.m. consisting of venison, elk, gator, wild hog, buffalo and possibly shrimp. Food from the cooking demo will be available as well. For those with slightly weaker stomachs, there will be chicken, barbecue and fish.

Guest speaker Lee McBride, a comedian/evangelist from the Alabaster area, will speak at 6 p.m., followed by a drawing for about $1,000 in prizes. The grand prize is a $500 gift card to Bass Pro Shops. Registration for prizes will be held in the gym at 4:45 p.m. Guests must be present to win.

Nelson said between 250 and 300 people attended last year’s event.

Anyone interested in attending should call the church office at 755-1694. If there is no answer, please leave a message.
